Multi-Platinum Australian artist Illy has made a habit out of defying expectations. His latest album ‘Two Degrees’ debuted at #1 on the ARIA chart beating out the likes of Leonard Cohen and Christmas albums from Michael Buble and Olivia Newton John. It contains the lead single, 3 x Platinum and 6 x ARIA nominated hit ‘Papercuts (feat. Vera Blue)’ and Platinum selling ‘Catch 22 (feat. Anne-Marie)’
In 2016 he was nominated for 6 ARIA Awards, including Best Male Artist and Song Of The Year, appeared at key Australian festivals, Splendour In The Grass, Groovin’ The Moo and Falls Festival as well as selling out his album launch shows just days after they went on sale. He also announced the biggest tour of his career, set to take place around Australia in March/April 2017.
‘Two Degrees’ was the long awaited follow up to ‘Cinematic’. Released in November 2013 the album landed at #4 on the ARIA album chart. It was Illy’s first top 10 debut. The album featured breakout hit “Tightrope” and saw him tour Australia in support of it.
Keeping the momentum up just weeks after the release of ‘Cinematic’, his 2012 album ‘Bring It Back’ won the 2013 ARIA Award for Best Urban Album. The album spawned the singles ‘Heard It All’ and ‘Where Ya Been’.
Sophomore album ‘The Chase’ was released in October 2010. It featured well-loved singles ‘Cigarettes’, ‘The Chase’ and the ARIA Gold-selling ‘It Can Wait’. The album took him on two sold out headline tours, an endless list of festival bills and scored both ARIA and AIR Award nominations.
Illy first emerged onto the scene back in 2009 with the release of his debut album ‘Long Story Short’. Released in April 2009 it featured single ‘Pictures’.
With festivals appearances, a huge tour and two multi-platinum singles from his latest album, Illy has come a long way since 2009 and 2017 is looking to be the biggest year for him yet.
