A.B. Original

A.B. ORIGINAL is the collaboration between Briggs (Album of the Year recipient at the National Indigenous Music Awards 2015) and Trials, (ARIA Award winning producer for Drapht, Illy, Hilltop Hoods, Seth Sentry and The Funkoars among others.)

A.B. ORIGINAL was born when the two friends were invited to join forces at triple j’s 40-year celebration, Beat The Drum, in January 2015. They produced a short but powerful set which also included the special performance of ‘The Hunt’, a collaboration with Gurrumul performed earlier on triple j’s live at the wireless.

They write songs in the spirit of N.W.A and West Side Connection, while lyrically bringing attention to issues closer to home. Respectively coming from the Yorta Yorta and Ngarrindjeri tribes, Briggs and Trials are socially conscious outspoken Indigenous artists. They bring a new sound & voice to Australian hip hop as A.B. ORIGINAL.

In 2016, the duo performed to sold out audiences at the Rolling Stones Live Lodge, a BIGSOUND showcase, and whilst supporting Hilltop Hoods on their national stadium tour. They delivered a poignant key note speech at BIGSOUND and created a history making Like A Version for triple j, paying a hip-hop homage to PAUL KELLY’s ‘Dumb Things’ with the creator himself alongside Dan Sultan.

A.B. ORIGINAL’S debut album, titled ‘RECLAIM AUSTRALIA’, was released in November 2016 via Hilltop Hoods’ label Golden Era Records and Briggs’ label Bad Apples Music and reached #10 on the ARIA charts and #1 on the iTunes charts in the first week. The album was ‘Album of The Week’ on triple j and 3RRR and enjoys continued high rotation airplay across national radio.

‘RECLAIM AUSTRALIA’ has delivered 3 extraordinary singles to date, including their debut song ‘2 Black, 2 Strong’ followed but the powerful and provocative ‘January 26’ which featured vocals by Dan Sultan, and the most recent single ‘I.C.U’ featuring Thelma Plum.

Early 2017, has seen the duo perform their hard-hitting set to huge crowds at the St Jerome’s Laneway Festival nationally, whilst also being the festival MC’s.
